Valentine’s dinner option: La Ciudad- A Romantic Escape to Mexico City from Chicago’s Uptown Neighborhood
La Ciudad, which means “The City” in English, is an Uptown gem located near the intersection of Sheridan and Wilson. This Mexican grill and café features modern flavors alongside traditional recipes common in Mexico City.
Don’t worry if you don’t speak Spanish, the staff is multi-lingual and has great explanations of the menu items. Pricing is very accessible and make sure to try the Horchata Agua Fresca! It’s a chic café setting that’s very intimate with a select number of white-clothed tables. The deep red walls feature black and white photography from places in Mexico City.
On Valentine’s Day weekend starting February 13th and every second Saturday, between 7-9:00 p.m. there will be a full mariachi band playing live Mexican music.
Masouleh is one of the most unique restaurants I have been to in Rogers Park and I can’t wait to go back! It’s right off of Clark street, is very clean, and they even have jars of homemade pickled vegetable mixes for sale.
The couple who owns it are absolutely adorable and extremely nice! When I wasn’t sure what to order they answered all of my questions (many questions) and made me feel right at home. Beautiful photography from Iran is featured on the brick walls with middle eastern decor in an urban atmosphere.
