This legendary group originated from Havana and is considered to be part of the “Golden Age of Latin Music.” Chicago is the perfect venue this month as they play with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Downtown!
(from website) The legendary musicians of the Buena Vista Social Club sparked a worldwide love affair with Cuban music with their first release in 1997, which was later included in Rolling Stone’s list of the greatest albums of all time. Original members Guajiro Mirabal, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo and Barbarito Torres come to Symphony Center for a night of the infectious energy that made the group an international phenomenon. Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca, “one of the most gifted, adventurous spirits of his generation” (The Guardian)opens the program.

This elegant dinner soiree celebrates it’s 25th Anniversary this year as hundreds and even thousands gather at secret locations in Chicago, Paris, Rome, and all over the world. The concept is different as it is pretty much BYO-everything, but it promises to be a unique experience to share with friends!
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. when participants walk downtown from official meeting points that they select when they register. The cost is $35 per person and there are tables of two (bring your own table, white cloth, and dinner) and travel together to a secret premiere location and meet hundreds of other Chicagoans elegantly dressed in white. If you pay an extra $5 you will be a member and get the first notice about the 2014 Diner En Blanc. Check their Facebook and Pinterest pages for amazing “white” recipe ideas.
