2/23: FREE Concert South Shore Opera Company of Chicago

South Shore Cultural Center. South Shore Opera Celebrates Black Composers
South Shore Opera Company of Chicago celebrates Black Composers in a free concert on February 23, Saturday, 6 p.m. at South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 South Shore Drive.Too-seldom-heard opera excerpts, scenes and songs will introduce South Shore Opera’s fifth anniversary season celebrating classic and new Black Composers. Enjoy lyrical and haunting and complementing modern music from Adolphus Hailstork’s opera Paul Laurence Dunbar: Common Ground, arias of Florence Price and Lena McLin, and instrumentals and arrangements by Black composers.
Our artists are Jonita Lattimore, Joelle Lamarre, Brandon Brown, Jeffrey Burish and Kirk Walker, under guest music director Renee Baker and accompanist Peter Slavin, and with strings.
This free, non-ticketed concert is funded through a grant by the Chicago Community Trust, and takes place at South Shore Cultural Center Saturday, February 23, at 6 p.mFor more information
